A lighting installation can look electrically simple while creating difficult thermal and environmental conditions. The supply selection should begin with the installed luminaire or control system.
Separate the functions
Define whether the device needs voltage adaptation, safety isolation, a regulated DC output, current control or a combination. Not every lighting requirement is solved by a conventional transformer.
For LED systems, coordinate the power supply with the light engine and its driver or current-control strategy.
Design for the enclosure
Compact luminaires can trap heat. Confirm airflow, ambient, mounting orientation and thermal protection. Encapsulation improves moisture protection but can also change the thermal path.
Outdoor installations require a complete ingress strategy covering the housing, cable glands, condensation and UV exposure.
Plan service and compliance
Identify the accessible connections, replacement method and label requirements before approval. A sealed assembly that cannot be tested or serviced becomes a liability.
Provide the destination-market standards and required declarations so that the product configuration and evidence can be checked together.
